How to Print a Test Page on Samsung Printers
Samsung printers earned a solid reputation for delivering sharp laser output at competitive prices. In 2017 HP acquired Samsung's printer division, so newer Samsung-branded models are no longer being produced. However, millions of Samsung printers are still going strong in homes and offices around the world. Printing a test page is the quickest way to check that yours is still running well.
Method 1: Using the Printer Buttons
Samsung printers have slightly different menu paths depending on the series, but all laser models can produce a configuration or demo page from the control panel.
Older Samsung laser printers
- Make sure the printer is on and loaded with paper.
- Press the Menu button on the control panel.
- Navigate to System Setup using the arrow keys and press OK.
- Select Reports and press OK.
- Choose Demo Page and press OK to print.
- The printer will produce a page showing print quality samples, toner status, and device configuration.
Samsung SL-M Series
- Press the Menu button on the control panel.
- Navigate to Information and press OK.
- Select Configuration and press OK.
- A configuration page will print with full device details, network settings, and toner levels.
Samsung Xpress M Series
- Press the Menu button.
- Navigate to System Setup and press OK.
- Select Report and press OK.
- Choose Configuration and press OK to print the report.
Method 2: Using Samsung Software
Samsung provided several useful tools for managing printers from a computer or mobile device.
Samsung Easy Printer Manager
- Open Samsung Easy Printer Manager from your Start menu or system tray. If it is not installed, you can find it on the CD that came with your printer or download it from the Samsung or HP support website.
- Select your Samsung printer from the device list on the left.
- Click the Advanced Setting button (the gear icon with a wrench) to switch to the advanced view.
- Under the Device Settings or Maintenance section, click Print Test Page or Configuration Report.
- Review the printed output for print quality, toner levels, and device status.
Samsung Mobile Print
- Download the Samsung Mobile Print app on your iOS or Android device. Note that this app may have been replaced by HP Smart on some devices since the acquisition.
- Connect to the same Wi-Fi network as your Samsung printer.
- Open the app and select your printer.
- Look for a Printer Status or Maintenance section and choose to print a test or configuration page.
Why Print a Test Page?
- Toner level check. Samsung configuration pages display a visual toner gauge so you know when it is time to order a replacement cartridge.
- Print quality assessment. The test page includes text and graphic samples that reveal issues like fading, banding, or toner speckling.
- Network configuration review. The configuration report shows IP address, MAC address, and network status, which is helpful when setting up the printer on a new network or troubleshooting connectivity.
- Verify the printer is still working. Since Samsung printers are no longer manufactured, confirming basic functionality with a test page gives you peace of mind that the hardware is still in good shape.
Tips for Best Results
- Check HP's support site for drivers. Since HP now owns the Samsung printer line, the latest drivers and firmware for your Samsung model may be available through the HP support website rather than the old Samsung download page.
- Compatible toner cartridges are widely available. Even though Samsung no longer manufactures printers, third-party toner cartridges for most Samsung models are easy to find online at reasonable prices.
- Try the HP Smart app. If Samsung Easy Printer Manager is no longer available for your operating system, the HP Smart app may recognize your Samsung printer and provide diagnostic features.
- Keep the printer clean. Periodically wipe the inside of the printer with a dry, lint-free cloth to remove loose toner dust. This helps prevent spots and smudges on your prints.
Troubleshooting Common Issues
Test page is faded or barely visible
Remove the toner cartridge and gently rock it from side to side several times to redistribute the remaining toner. Reinsert it and print again. If the page is still faint, the cartridge is likely near empty and needs to be replaced.
Black specks or spots on the page
Speckling usually means loose toner is inside the printer. Remove the toner cartridge and imaging unit (if separate), and carefully wipe the interior with a dry cloth. Check the drum surface for damage. If the spots form a repeating pattern, the drum is likely worn and should be replaced.
Paper jams when printing the test page
Open the printer and remove any jammed sheets carefully, pulling in the direction the paper normally travels. Fan the paper stack before reloading it and make sure the guides in the tray are aligned snugly with the paper edges. Worn pickup rollers can also cause jams. Wipe them with a slightly damp, lint-free cloth to restore grip.
Printer is not recognized by the computer
If the printer connects via USB, try a different cable or port. For network printers, confirm that the printer's IP address has not changed by printing a configuration page from the control panel. Reinstall the driver if necessary, checking the HP support site for the latest version compatible with your operating system.
Final Thoughts
Samsung printers may no longer be in production, but they remain solid workhorses that can serve you well for years with basic maintenance. Printing a test page from the control panel or through Samsung Easy Printer Manager takes just a moment and tells you everything you need to know about your printer's health. Keep an eye on HP's support channels for driver updates, and your Samsung printer will continue to deliver clean, reliable output.
